After visiting Notre Dame de Paris, I could not imagine anything more beautiful … next stop, Notre Dame de Chartres. The light… the stained glass… the architecture, all simply breathtaking. I think it is the light in the cathedral that makes it all so unbelievably beautiful.
Chartres Cathedral has a rich history dating back to at least the 4th century. The current structure was largely built starting in 1145 and reconstructed after a fire in 1194, marking a high point of French Gothic architecture. The cathedral is renowned for its stunning stained glass and sculptures, and it has hosted notable events, including the coronation of King Henry IV. Since 1979, it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its architectural and historical significance.
Next week, we will jump on the train in Paris and head to Reims, in the Champagne wine region.

La cathédrale de Chartres possède une riche histoire qui remonte au moins au IVe siècle. La structure actuelle a été en grande partie construite à partir de 1145 et reconstruite après un incendie en 1194, marquant ainsi un sommet de l’architecture gothique française. La cathédrale est réputée pour ses magnifiques vitraux et sculptures, et elle a accueilli des événements marquants, dont le couronnement du roi Henri IV. Depuis 1979, elle est inscrite au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO pour son importance architecturale et historique.
